FOND du LAC, Wis. (AP) – A former City of Fond du Lac department head has been convicted in the embezzlement of more than $240,000 from taxpayers.
The Fond du Lac Reporter says the jury convicted 65-year-old Mark C. Beveridge on 17 counts Friday but acquitted him on eight others. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled.
District Attorney Dan Kaminsky alleged that Beveridge gave his computer password to other Management Information Systems Department employees to buy electronics and other items such as band equipment, a kangaroo outfit for a child and ham.
Defense attorney Michael O’Rourke said his client had only about $2,000 worth of allegedly stolen equipment in his home. He called his client a “lousy manager” who should have been fired but did nothing criminal while others in the department were stealing.
