MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Dane County jury has found a former day-care provider guilty on one of seven counts of injuring children in her care.

The jury returned its decision Saturday morning in the case against 42-year-old Michelle S. Christensen of Fitchburg. Her attorney tells the Wisconsin State Journal she was acquitted on three other child-abuse charges, and the jury deadlocked on the other three.

Prosecutors say Christensen injured children ranging in age from a few months to 1 year old.

Eisenberg said the jury convicted her in the case of a 1-year-old who appeared to have been slapped in the face by an adult hand. He said he expects to appeal, saying prosecutors failed to prove that Christensen caused the injuries.

She faces a maximum penalty of 3 years in prison.
