Milwaukee County Circuit Court Chief Judge Jeff Kremers

Milwaukee County Circuit Court Chief Judge Jeff Kremers issued a directive Monday morning that reimbursement of court-appointed expert witnesses should not exceed $2,800 at a maximum rate of $150 per hour. The directive applies for all pre-trial work.

The same $150-per-hour rate will apply to court appointed expert witnesses for trial testimony and not exceed an additional $1,000. However, judges can exercise discretion when determining appropriate rates, Kremers said.

The recommended caps are pursuant to cases that fall under Wis. Stat. 980.031(1) and (3) and are effective immediately.
