GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A state appeals court has denied a new trial for the De Pere woman convicted in a drunken-driving crash that killed two teens in 2008.

A jury convicted 48-year-old Anrietta M. Geske in 2009 of three charges, including two counts of first-degree reckless homicide. She was sentenced to 80 years in prison.

She appealed, seeking a new trial or resentencing. A WLUK-TV report says she alleged in part that there wasn’t enough evidence to support the element of “utter disregard for human life” in the homicide charges.

An appeals court denied both bids Wednesday. According to the court, there was indeed utter disregard because Geske was driving 80 mph after consuming alcohol and prescription pills.

Two 18-year-old women were killed when Geske’s speeding Porsche crashed into their vehicle in Ashwaubenon.
