Milwaukee contract lawyer Roy Evans is running for the Fifth District County Supervisor position in Milwaukee County.
Evans, 64, is seeking the seat for the district that includes Marquette University, the Third Ward, the Summerfest Grounds, City Hall and the Milwaukee County Courthouse.
A sole practitioner, Evans said he plans to run a grass-roots campaign based on his 32 years in practice to include work as a contract lawyer for Milwaukee County.
He is on retainer with the county to review contracts and also represents about 20 tavern owners as legal counsel.
Evans reviewed the construction contracts for Miller Park and is currently working on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s purchase of county land for development in Wauwatosa.
If elected, Evans said he would cease to do contract review for the county, but continue to do estate planning and wills and trusts for private clients.
“I would want to avoid any conflict of interests,” he said. “I would do a lot of referring, but I see the practice as more complimentary and far more of a positive than a negative.”
Milwaukee community advocate Muhammed Mahdi and Chevy Johnson, Youth Services specialist at the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, have also declared their candidacy for the Fifth District seat.
The primary is scheduled for Feb. 21, with the general election on April 3.
