HUDSON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin teen who sued after he was bitten by a police dog has settled the case for $210,000.

Seventeen-year-old Nate Livermore suffered permanent damage to his arm two years ago when the dog bit him as he fled from a home in Hudson where shots were being fired.

A federal judge has approved the settlement that leaves Livermore with about $100,000 after attorneys’ fees and medical expenses. Livermore and his mother sued St. Croix County, the city of Hudson and others, arguing that a sheriff’s deputy used excessive force when he released the dog that bit the teen.

St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts said there were no findings that the deputy did anything wrong.

Shilts tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press that sometimes it’s just cheaper to settle.
