Chippewa County begins search for new DA

Gov. Scott Walker is seeking applicants for a new Chippewa County District Attorney after prosecutor Jon Theisen was appointed to the Eau Claire County Circuit Court on Oct. 7.

Theisen is scheduled to be sworn in on Oct. 21 and will receive judicial training from judges in neighboring counties for one or two weeks, prior to taking the Branch 4 bench in Eau Claire in early November, according to judicial assistant Connie Moritz.

In the meantime, Judge Benjamin Proctor, who retired earlier this year from Branch 4, is handling the caseload as a reserve judge.

“We haven’t been left in the lurch,” Moritz said. “He’s been able to handle cases for the last couple of months.”

Attorneys interested in applying for the Chippewa County prosecutor position need to submit by Nov. 4 a cover letter, resume and references through Gov. Walker’s website at www.walker.wi.gov.
