BOSTON, MA — Any moment now, patent law could become as new as the inventions it governs.
IP lawyers anticipate that President Obama will soon sign the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act. The bill makes numerous changes to American patent law, some of which would take effect upon the president’s signature.
The most notable change, of particular concern to inventors and the patent attorneys who love them, is that patent protection would go to the first person to file for protection rather than the first person to invent.
