Our future depends on our future leaders.

Ann Richmond

And because I can safely say our 2011 class of Up and Coming Lawyers is an impressive bunch, I have a lot of confidence in the future.

These 25 rising stars of Wisconsin’s legal community show that the practice of law is strong in this state. Whether a recent graduate, or starting a second career, our Up and Comers have already made an impact on the profession. This annual event, now in its third year, recognizes lawyers who have been practicing eight years or less, and who have demonstrated leadership, contributed to their community and successfully achieved legal outcomes early in their career.

Our honorees have made great strides in case law, volunteered their efforts to pro bono and other charity efforts, creatively solved problems, tackled challenging cases and provided mentorship to others. Some have their own practice, others work in a large firm and some work as corporate counsel. But no matter where they are, these Up and Comers lead by example through their dedication and smarts.

The information found in the dozens of nominations we received would have filled not only this magazine, but also every Wisconsin Law Journal we’ve published this year. So, in addition to their story of how they became a lawyer, we asked them some questions about themselves, so you can see, in their own words, why we chose them as an Up and Coming Lawyer.

Their answers are bright and funny, deep and philosophical. In short, they confirm why this talented group of attorneys has been so successful. I hope you enjoy getting to know them through their responses.

I also look forward to watching our 2011 Up and Coming Lawyers continue to make their mark. The future is in very good hands.

Sincerely,

Ann Richmond,
Publisher, Wisconsin Law Journal
