SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) — The Sheboygan Common Council has voted to begin the process of removing the city’s mayor from office, a move he promises to fight.
After a number of angry exchanges between Mayor Bob Ryan and aldermen Monday night, the council approved a resolution that authorizes $10,000 to hire outside legal counsel to evaluate constituent complaints against Ryan.
The mayor’s drinking was recently in the news after a weekend binge in Elkhart Lake. Witnesses say he was passed out at a bar and was involved in a scuffle.
A combative Ryan told council members he was the victim of rumors and vendettas and vowed not to give up his job.
The Sheboygan Press says Ryan promises legal action if he is removed from office.
