The Wisconsin Judicial Selection Advisory Committee picked four finalists for the vacant Branch 17 seat in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.
Last month, Judge Francis Wasielewski retired after 28 years on the bench.
The finalists include Glendale Municipal Court Judge Christopher Lipscomb; Nelson Phillips, associate at Godfrey & Kahn SC, Milwaukee; Gilbert Urfer, associate at Nistler Law Office SC, Brookfield; and Thomas McAdams, a state Tax Appeals commissioner in Madison.
Lipscomb previously ran twice for circuit court judge in Milwaukee County.
Tom Evenson, spokesperson for Gov. Scott Walker, said he hopes to fill the vacancy prior to the Judicial College in mid-September.
The appointment will be made once internal interviews and background investigations are complete, according to Evenson.
The other candidates for the Milwaukee County vacancy included Christopher Carson, Frank Schiro, Kirsten Nichols, Thomas McAdams, Daniel Gabler and two individuals who requested that their applications remain confidential.
