MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin state superintendent Tony Evers is praising the announcement by the Obama administration that states will be able to obtain waivers from stringent testing requirements under the federal No Child Left Behind education reform law.

U.S Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Monday the waivers will be extended if states pursue other accountability measures.

That is something Evers and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker are exploring with a special task force representing a variety of state education interests.

Evers said No Child Left Behind is a broken law and the alternative accountability system being pursued in Wisconsin will be more meaningful.
