CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) — A judge in Chippewa County set parole eligibility at 2036 for man convicted in a jealousy slaying.

Thirty-three-year-old William Vollbrecht appeared in Chippewa County Circuit Court Friday for his sentencing in the fatal shooting of Christopher Farmer in May 2010.

The Chippewa Herald says Judge Steve Cray challenged Vollbrecht to live out his life as a person of value, and not to commit suicide as he has attempted in the past.

State law mandates a life sentence for Vollbrecht, but a judge has the option of setting a parole eligibility date.
