RACINE, Wis. (AP) — A Milwaukee teen who was convicted of sexually assaulting a 2-year-old girl last year has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Seventeen-year-old Christopher Sorensen was charged as an adult last year with first-degree sexual assault of a child under 12. He pleaded no contest in April and was sentenced Monday.

The girl’s mother told investigators she’d woken up and realized the girl was no longer next to her. She says she looked over and saw Sorensen on the girl, both with their pants down.

Sorensen told police he pulled the girl’s pants down, then “got real confused” and wasn’t sure what happened next.

Defense attorney John Cabranes said Sorensen is a low-functioning individual who would have received better treatment in the community than in a correctional facility.
