MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Madison man serving a federal prison sentence for a convenience store robbery has been convicted of taking part last year in another robbery that led to a shooting death.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports 22-year-old Berry A. Carr pleaded no contest on Monday to felony murder for the March 2010 shooting death of Lofton Sprouls.
Under a plea agreement, Dane County Assistant District Attorney Michael Finley said he will recommend that any sentence Carr receives be served concurrent to the 15 years he is now serving in federal prison.
The criminal complaint alleges Carr and 23-year-old Deleon D. Harland of Chicago planned to rob Sprouls. Harland allegedly pulled the trigger while Carr was sitting a vehicle nearby.
Harland’s trial is scheduled to begin in September.
