MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Wisconsin woman and registered nurse has been sentenced to three years of probation for falsely posing as a nurse at a Minnesota hospital and stealing drugs.

Prosecutors say 31-year-old Maria Anne Mihalik of Superior was sentenced Wednesday on one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. She pleaded guilty in March.

Her sentence includes 180 days in a halfway house and 150 hours of community service.

Mihalik had admitted to entering Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids on May 5, 2010, and stealing the painkiller Dilaudid from patients. She didn’t work at that hospital, but police say she wore scrubs and an ID badge to try to blend in with other hospital workers.

Mihalik’s attorney, Robert Lengeling of Minneapolis, said Mihalik is taking federal probation “very seriously.”
