LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — Bond has been set at $250,000 in La Crosse County for a driver accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a woman and injured four others.
According to police reports, Jesse Herrmann was intoxicated when he slammed his pickup truck into a car that was turning off Highway 35 in Holmen Saturday. Twenty-three-year-old Theresa Kroes of Onalaska was killed instantly. Four other young women were seriously injured.
Herrmann has not yet been formally charged. The 27-year-old made a brief appearance in court Tuesday.
The La Crosse Tribune says Scott Anderson testified that Herrmann tried to run away following the crash.
Anderson said he caught up with him in some nearby woods and helped police drag him up a hill to a parking lot where he confessed to drinking before the crash.
