MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A man accused of plotting to kill an abortion clinic doctor will be sent out of state for a mental competency exam before the attempted homicide case against him can proceed.
Dane County Circuit Judge David Flanagan said Monday the state will make use of the competency exam ordered in the federal case against 63-year-old Ralph Lang. The Marshfield man faces state and federal charges after he allegedly told investigators he planned to kill abortion providers at Planned Parenthood in Madison.
Police arrested Lang May 25 at a Madison motel after his gun discharged while he was loading it. The State Journal says the location of the federal exam has not been disclosed.
