MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Milwaukee County caregiver has pleaded guilty to patient neglect after investigators said she left a nursing home while on duty and wasn’t around when an elderly man fell.

Twenty-four-year-old Latisha L. Williams entered her plea Thursday. She’s scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 1.

Prosecutors say Greenfield police responded to a 911 call from the facility where Williams worked in December 2009. The call reported an elderly man who had fallen and couldn’t get up.

Police found an 88-year-old man on the floor. He said he had fallen about two hours earlier and his calls for help went unanswered.

Police say Williams had clocked in minutes before the man fell. She told investigators she left to buy cigarettes.

A message left with her attorney Friday was not immediately returned.
