OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — An Omro man has been charged with mistreatment of animals for allegedly killing his mother-in-law’s cats.
Twenty-six-year-old Payne Kaddatz is charged Monday in Winnebago County Circuit Court.
The Northwestern reports that, according to a criminal complaint, Omro police found two dead cats in a cardboard box in a Dumpster on May 20.
Kaddatz originally told police he found the cats already dead, but later said one of them was old and the other had cancer. He allegedly told his mother-in-law he would take them to a rescue farm, but wrapped them in a towel and struck them in the head with a wooden dowel.
An initial appearance is set for July 11. It was not immediately clear whether Kaddatz had an attorney, and a phone number for him was unavailable.
