RACINE, Wis. (AP) — The Racine School Board is expected to talk about the possibility of legal action over cuts in money for schools.

The board has added the issue to its agenda for Monday night’s meeting. The state budget passed Thursday night by the Republican-controlled Legislature cuts money for public education by $800 million over two years. Along with a reduction in how much schools can collect from property taxes per student, the budget is expected to reduce revenue to districts by about $1.6 billion. Racine Unified fares worse than other school districts in Wisconsin because it’s property poor and relies heavily on state aid.

The executive director of the Wisconsin Alliance for Excellent Schools, Tom Beebe, tells WGTD that possible legal action is about the only move left for districts like Racine.
