MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin state Assembly plans on passing a bill Tuesday to legalize the carrying of concealed weapons.

The Senate passed the measure earlier this week. Once it clears the Assembly next week, it will head to Republican Gov. Scott Walker who is a supporter.

Republican leaders in the Assembly met early Thursday morning during a break in budget debate to schedule the concealed weapons bill next week. It is the only bill they are scheduled to take up that day.

Democratic Minority Leader Peter Barca questioned what the urgency was in passing the bill. Republican Majority Leader Scott Suder said it has been debated for years and backers wanted to get it done.

Wisconsin and Illinois are the only states that currently don’t allow carrying concealed weapons.
