Man charged in toddler’s death in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A 25-year-old man has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the death of his girlfriend’s 1-year-old daughter in Milwaukee last week.

Antwan Adams Jr. made his first court appearance Tuesday in the death of Janaya Hicks.

The Milwaukee County medical examiner says the girl died of blunt force injuries of the torso. Her death was ruled a homicide.

According to a criminal complaint, Adams was not supposed to have contact with the girl. That’s because of a previous investigation of physical abuse to the girl, who suffered a fracture to her right femur in February.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the toddler’s mother left Adams to care for the girl last Wednesday while the mother attended a high school graduation.

In the morning, the boyfriend found Janaya unresponsive.
