NEW LONDON, Wis. (AP) — A New London man has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in a 2007 stabbing death.

The criminal complaint alleges 35-year-old Chad W. Magolski killed 77-year-old James L. Park in Park’s New London apartment in December 2007. Magolski lived in a different unit in the building at the time. The complaint suggests that Magolski killed Park in a robbery and used some of the money to pay his overdue rent and utilities.

Magolski made his initial appearance Tuesday in Waupaca County Court before Judge Philip Kirk. Cash bail was set at $1 million. His preliminary hearing is June 30 before Judge John Hoffmann.

His public defender, Troy Neilsen, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday.

Assistant Attorney General David J. Wambach is acting as special prosecutor in the case.
