EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) — A 24-year-old Augusta man is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl at knifepoint.
Stephen A. LeMere was charged Wednesday with three felonies, including first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. The charges carry a maximum prison sentence of 68 years.
According to the criminal complaint, the girl was staying with relatives last weekend, and LeMere was also at the home. Prosecutors say LeMere began texting the girl early Saturday morning asking her to have sex with him.
Court documents say the girl refused and went into the kitchen. Prosecutors say LeMere followed her, held a knife to her throat with one hand and fondled her underneath her clothes with the other.
Online court records did not list an attorney for LeMere on Friday.
