Congratulations to Kelli Thompson on being named the state’s new public defender.
When Nick Chiarkas announced he was retiring, I had the same thought as I’m sure most of you did: “I hope they hire an old courthouse rat, and not some desk-sitter.”
And fortunately for us, they did.
I remember Kelli when we both could be found every day scuttling between courtrooms and courthouses, and juggling too many cases at once. Add the experience she has in the SPD’s administration, and that’s a great combo. Our state’s indigent defendants are in good hands.
