PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — An FBI agent says a 50-year-old Portland man charged with sending threatening letters to Maine Gov. Paul LePage has also admitted sending threatening letters to other prominent politicians.

A federal judge on Wednesday ordered Michael Thomas held without bail until his trial.

According to the Portland Press Herald, FBI Agent Pamela Flick testified that Thomas said he sent other threatening letters to Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine, Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, U.S. Rep. Steve King of Iowa and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Flick said Thomas described himself as a liberal Democrat, a communist and a proponent of gun rights.

Thomas’ attorney said Thomas should be released with an electronic monitoring bracelet, saying even though Thomas sent threatening letters he’s never been charged with a violent crime.
