CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for running a prostitution ring that recruited underage girls and advertised their services through Internet social media sites.

Thirty-six-year-old Amin Sharif of East Orange was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Camden. He previously pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to transport minors across state lines for purposes of prostitution.

Federal prosecutors say he ran prostitution businesses in Atlantic City and Linden, N.J., and in Wisconsin between May 2005 and May 2009, when he was arrested. He’s been in federal custody since then.

Prosecutors say he employed women and minor girls as prostitutes, controlling their activities and taking the money they made.
