GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin farmer is accused of setting off a pipe bomb that destroyed three fishing boats and damaged a pleasure boat in Kewaunee’s Salmon Harbor Marina.

Forty-seven-year-old Joseph Sloma of Denmark made his initial court appearance this week in U.S. District Court in Green Bay.

According to a criminal complaint, Sloma and another man — whose identity prosecutors are protecting — set off a pipe bomb in a charter fishing boat called the Trout Scout in September 2009.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports investigators at first were unable to determine the cause of the explosion. But according to the complaint, seven months later, a confidential informant told investigators Sloma detonated the bomb because he didn’t like the Trout Scout’s owner.

A preliminary hearing is set for March 8.
