BARABOO, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin mother has pleaded no contest to felony negligence in the death of her 16-month-old son who was left in a hot trailer at a park in Prairie du Sac last summer.
Police were called to the VFW Park July 17 where they found 21-year-old Brandie Nelson trying to revive her son, Tanner. The child was rushed to Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Nelson told authorities she left Tanner in the trailer with the air conditioning on, and checked on him every half-hour. But investigators found that even with the air conditioning on, the day was so hot the interior would have reached more than 110 degrees.
Nelson faces up to 25 years in prison when sentenced April 20. The Baraboo News Republic reports a prosecutor said Friday he won’t recommend prison time.
