Buelow Vetter announces that attorneys Gary M. Ruesch and Renae Waterman Aldana have joined the firm’s school law practice.

Ruesch has more than 30 years experience counseling school districts around the country on general school and employment law issues. He serves as labor counsel to numerous school districts, assisting in contract bargaining, discrimination complaints and other employment matters. He earned his J.D. in 1980 from Marquette.

Aldana has more than 11 years experience advising school districts regarding special education, student discipline and general school law matters. Her practice focuses on special education mediation and litigation, and counseling school districts with strategies for preventing and responding to due process hearing requests and appeals. She earned her J.D. in 1999 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Prior to joining Buelow Vetter, both Ruesch and Aldana practiced with the Milwaukee-based law firm of Quarles & Brady.

DiRenzo & Bomier announces the addition of Todd Slagter to its practice. Slagter joins the firm as an associate attorney and will be involved in estate planning, probate and trust administration, taxation, elder law and real estate issues for both business and individual clients.

Slagter graduated in 2000 from the University of Denver with a J.D. Prior to joining DiRenzo & Bomier, he worked for an Oshkosh law firm where he focused on estate planning, taxation, probate and trust administration and elder law.

DiRenzo & Bomier also recently promoted four attorneys from associate to partner. They are: Jeffrey Berzowski,  administrative, employment, business & commercial law; personal injury, malpractice, general civil litigation and appeals; Rachel Fitzgerald, Social Security disability, workers’ compensation; Kathleen Healy, family and employment law, general civil litigation; Meghan Healy, family and employment law, divorce, guardian ad litem, workers’ compensation.

Foley & Lardner and media and sports investment bank Evolution Media Capital jointly announced today that Robert A. “Bob” DuPuy has been named a partner within Foley’s Sports Industry Team in New York, and senior advisor at EMC, an affiliate of Creative Artists Agency, the world’s leading entertainment and sports agency.

DuPuy is the former president and chief operating officer of Major League Baseball where he held general responsibility for MLB’s central offices, including sponsorship, international broadcasting, baseball operations, legal affairs, Internet operations and MLB’s labor relations committee, among other duties. Prior to joining MLB in 1998, he was a partner with Foley & Lardner and member of the firm’s management committee. While a partner with Foley, DuPuy served as outside legal counsel for MLB beginning in 1989 and as the principal outside counsel to the MLB commissioner and executive council from 1992 to 1998.

Michael Best & Friedrich attorney Ann Smith has been elected a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy.

The American College of Bankruptcy honors exceptional bankruptcy professionals for their work, contributions to the administration of justice, public service and integrity. The college extends invitations for fellowships to only the most qualified professionals who meet these strict standards.

Smith practices in the areas of bankruptcy, commercial litigation, commercial transactions and constitutional litigation. Smith will attend a black tie induction ceremony in March at the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.
