When it comes to nursing home law, attorney Jason T. Studinski wrote the book.

After years of championing for the rights of senior citizens victimized by nursing home neglect or abuse, the Stevens Point lawyer authored “How to Keep Your Loved Ones Safe in a Wisconsin Nursing Home.”

The manual is meant to be a reference guide as to what families should consider and know before placing a loved one in a nursing home.

After more than a decade in practice at two firms in central Wisconsin, Studinski opted to open his own firm in his native Stevens Point last November.

The change allowed him the freedom to vigorously dive into nursing home cases.

“The goal of going on my own was to focus on elder abuse and neglect cases and have in place a team of world-class people so that we can make a difference for our clients,” he said.

Going solo can be a chancy proposition, but Studinski has always welcomed a challenge.

He graduated high school early and finished his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 3½ years.

In between, he attended basic and advanced training at Fort Sill in Oklahoma to serve in the Wisconsin Army National Guard.

Studinski subsequently worked his way through college thanks to a combination of scholarships, military aid and part-time jobs.

He graduated law school in 1998 and since then, he has been known as a tireless advocate of nursing home resident rights.

That has included appearances with clients before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee in support of the Fairness in Nursing Home Arbitration Act.

“I think it’s the most rewarding type of work because on a daily basis I can point to concrete examples where the work has made a difference in care received by clients and other people who I’ve never met,” Studinski said.
