Boardman Law Firm, a Madison-based law firm, announced that it has been awarded recertification in Meritas, a global alliance of business law firms.  Boardman was one of the founding law firms for Meritas in 1990, and as a condition of its membership, is required to successfully complete recertification every three years.

Meritas is the only law firm alliance with an established and comprehensive means of monitoring and enhancing the quality of its member firms-a process that saves clients time in validating law firm credentials and experience. Firms are regularly assessed and recertified for the breadth of their practice expertise and client satisfaction.

Christine J. Willette has been appointed to the office of Director of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), a 20,000-member association representing court reporters and providers of captioning and realtime transcription services for the legal, broadcasting, business, government, and educational communities throughout the United States. Willette works as a freelance court reporter and is the owner of Willette Court Reporting LLC in Rothschild.

Attorney Kristina E. Somers, of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. , has been elected Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Tax Section. She is currently serving a three-year term (which expires in 2012) on the Board of Directors.

Somers, a shareholder in Reinhart’s Tax, Litigation and Tax-Exempt Organizations Practices, advocates for clients in tax controversy disputes and offers planning strategies to minimize taxes. Somers attended Boston College Law School.

The firm also announced that it has recognized litigators Antonio M. Trillo (Tony) and Joseph W. Voiland (Joe) as the firm’s 2010 Pro Bono Attorneys of the Year.

Reinhart’s award, now in its second year, recognizes a firm attorney (or attorneys) who best demonstrated a commitment to serve those unable to otherwise obtain needed legal services.

Trillo, an attorney in the firm’s Litigation Practice, represents food and consumer goods manufacturers. Voiland, an attorney in the Litigation and Employee Benefits Practices, concentrates his practice on financial services litigation, including ERISA litigation and defending actuarial malpractice claims.

Trillo graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Voiland has had a career involved with public service, first as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, later as law clerk at the Wisconsin Supreme Court to the Honorable Diane S. Sykes, and most recently as appointed Public Service Special Prosecutor for the Milwaukee County District Attorneys Office.

Voiland earned his J.D. with honors from Marquette University Law School.

Ruder Ware announces the selection of Attorney Dean R. Dietrich as the recipient of the John L. Cook Memorial Award, awarded by the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce.

The John L. Cook Memorial Award was established to honor the memory of John Cook, a member of the first class of Leadership Wausau/Marathon County.

Dietrich was recognized for his years of service to bettering the quality of life for Wausau area residents.

For over 30 years, Dietrich has practiced in the areas of labor and employment law, representing public and private sector employers in the many aspects of employment law and labor relations.

The firm also announced that attorney G. Lane Ware was selected as the recipient of the Wisconsin Outstanding Service Award by The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation.

This award is in recognition of professional service, adhering to the highest principles and traditions of the legal profession and to the service of the public. Ware has over 40 years of experience in business and securities law.

Quarles & Brady announced that Thomas P. Hitchcock has joined the firm’s Milwaukee office as an attorney in the Public Finance Group.

Hitchcock previously practiced law at a large firm in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area where he focused his practice in public finance and commercial lending. He earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.
