Type in the last name “Balistrieri” on the State Bar of Wisconsin’s website and a trio of names pop up.

Two of which haven’t practiced law in more than 25 years.

But attorney Joseph P. Balistrieri will soon have the word “suspended” next to his name replaced after the son of reputed Milwaukee Mafia boss Frank P. Balistrieri died at age 70 on Oct. 25.

Balistrieri was remembered as a talented attorney, prior to being convicted of extortion along with his brother John in 1984.

The two only served 39 months of an 8-year sentence, but neither ever practiced law again.

In the Journal Sentinel story, veteran Milwaukee attorney Gerald P. Boyle said Balistrieri was “one of the brightest guys I’ve ever known,” and a “first-rate lawyer.”
