The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press has a very nice webpage dedicated to the Freedom of Information Act. From the homepage’s “FOIA Services” tab, researchers can find a link to the Federal Open Government Guide (10th ed). This guide contains information on the Act, exemptions, Federal open meeting laws, and sample materials. Researchers can also link to the FOIA letter generator. This online tool takes the user through a step by step process that includes sample text for the letter.
The Reporters Committee site also includes links to State Open Government Guide, a primer on First Amendment law, and links to articles published in the quarterly “The News Media and the Law.”
For additional resources, check out the Freedom of Information section of the Wisconsin State Law Library’s Legal Topics.
