Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. announces that shareholder Thomas N. Shorter has been appointed Chair of the American Health Lawyers Association's Labor and Employment Practice Group. Shorter’s one-year term will begin on June 26.

An active member of the American Health Lawyers Association for eight years, Shorter served as the practice group’s Vice Chair from 2007-2010. Appointed by the Association’s Board of Directors, Shorter will focus on developing educational materials and events for members about labor and employment law in the health care industry.

Shorter is a member of Godfrey & Kahn’s Labor & Employment and Health Care Practice Groups in the Madison office. He represents clients across the health care industry, including physicians’ groups and hospitals, research institutions and health care related organizations, as well as other businesses. He earned his law degree from Northeastern University.

The American Health Lawyers Association is a national legal education organization with more than 10,000 members. Comprised of 16 practice groups, the Association’s mission is to function as an information exchange to help its professional members across the health industry better serve their clients. Through its non-partisan position, the Association serves to educate the general public on selected health care legal issues.

Benjamin S. Wagner, U.W. 2003, has been certified as a civil trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is a shareholder with Habush Habush & Rottier S.C., and practices in the firm's Milwaukee office.

Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman announced the hiring of Sara Berman Jensen, Of Counsel at Hall Render’s Milwaukee office.

Jensen received her law degree from University of Wisconsin, with honors. Jensen has a strong background in taxation, including tax issues impacting non-profit organizations. She was in private practice for over five years before spending more than a decade as in-house counsel, giving her insight into the practical side of the practice of law.

Community Justice, Inc. (CJI), a Madison nonprofit law firm, will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a fundraiser bash at Segredo (624 University Ave., Madison 53703) on Thursday, June 10, 2010 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The party, titled “5 Years and Counting,” features appetizers, a cash bar, bowling, Wii, Brazilian sports bar games and a silent auction with items kindly donated from Ancora Coffee Roasters, Art Gecko, Cameo Day Spa, Claire’s Hair Studio, Green Owl, Orange Tree Imports, Willy St Co-Op, and other local vendors.

The Milwaukee Bar Association announced the results of its 2010 election. The election was held for the positions of Vice President, Directors (2), Judicial Selection Committee members (3), and American Bar Association Delegate.

The winners are: Vice President: Charles H. Barr, Croen & Barr; Directors: Marcia E. Facey, Northwestern Mutual; Susan E. Lovern, von Briesen & Roper; and David G. Peterson, Godfrey & Kahn; Judicial Selection Committee: Anthony S. Baish, Godfrey & Kahn; Raymond M. Dall’Osto, Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown; and Anne Berleman Kearney, Appellate Consulting Group; American Bar Association Delegate: Hon. Charles N. The new officers and directors will be sworn in by Chief Judge Jeffrey A. Kremers at the Milwaukee Bar Association’s 152nd Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Tuesday, June 8, at the Italian Conference Center. In addition, Rachel A. Schneider, Quarles & Brady, will be sworn in as president. She currently is the president-elect.
