I love when I find websites that offer a 50 state survey on a particular topic. Can we tape? is a website published by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. The site provides a “practical guide to taping phone calls and in-person conversations.” Summaries regarding the ability to tape conversations are available for the 50 states. These summaries include a brief discussion of the law with specific statutory references. Items explored include taping without all parties consent, penalties, and use of hidden cameras.
Can we tape? also includes discussions on interstate phone calls, cell phones, and the FCC. Each area is a brief synopsis of the relevant issues.
