Tax Research and Data

Listen to this article

As the end of the year approaches, many of us think about taxes. The Tax Foundation offers a variety of information on many areas of taxation. The Tax Foundation is a nonpartisan educational organization and research group. Their website provides a variety of reports and data.

An interesting feature is the State Tax page. This page offers a graphical map that allows the researcher to select a specific state. Choosing Wisconsin generates an extensive list of data including, “Wisconsin ranks 42nd in the Tax Foundation's State Business Tax Climate Index. The Index compares the states in five areas of taxation that impact business: corporate taxes; individual income taxes; sales taxes; unemployment insurance taxes; and taxes on property, including residential and commercial property.” Comparison data with other states is also highlighted.

The Foundation features articles and reports on several different topics including corporate income tax, alternative minimum tax, sales & use tax, property tax and many others. Each article clearly lists the date it was written. With the volume of information on the website, however, it is my opinion that they could use a more advanced search engine.
