Sometimes it is important to gather more information on a physician than what is found on their web biography. Both Westlaw and Lexis offer some excellent reports and resources. In addition, some places to check include:

State of Wisconsin Department of Regulation & Licensing
The researcher can look up an individual and gather information on currency of license and a list of any orders issued by the credentialing authority. If anything is listed under the “order” section of the profile, additional information can be obtained from the public access to Reports of Decisions. The page also includes an overall summary of licensing requirements and a link to the relevant code sections.

AMA DoctorFinder
There is no way to conduct a nationwide search, but users can search by either specialty/state or by name/state. Results will include both AMA members and non-members. More information is available for AMA members. In addition to contact information, the summary includes the medical school, residency location, professional activity (e.g. administration vs. resident) and board certifications.

AIM – Administrators in Medicine DocFinder
“DocFinder contains the licensing background and disciplinary information of physicians and other health care practitioners in addition to physician profile information from states that have passed physician profile laws.” The site allows the researcher to query 21 states in a single search. The states included within this search are clearly identified. The remaining states provide a link to their licensing website to search individually.
