The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Computer Security Division exists to “provide standards and technology to protect information systems against threats to the confidentiality of information.” For researchers in this area, their Resource Center may be a place to check out.
The “Publications” section of the website offers several types of documents and guidance materials. It includes standards, research, and study results. The researcher can conduct a general keyword search of the site. However, to assist in refining a search, the website breaks the documents down into several categories. These include draft documents, security bulletins, and special publications which focus on general interest topics. For example, the latest special publication is entitled “Guidelines on Cell Phone and PDA Security.”
Another feature is the archived documents. These links list withdrawn or superseded publications. Information provided clearly identifies when it was withdrawn and the new publication.
