The Wisconsin Department of Health maintains a nice collection of health statistics. The home page offers the researcher links to several main areas. The vital statistics page summarizes birth, death, and life expectancy data. The “insurance status” link offers several reports on health insurance coverage among residents. Other pages include minority health and population information. I personally find the Health Statistics A-Z very helpful. This is an “alphabetical listing of online information related to collecting and reporting health statistics in Wisconsin.”

WISH (Wisconsin Interactive Statistics on Health) is a dynamic program. It allows the researcher to create specialized reports on topics from teen births, mortality, injury hospitalizations, violent deaths, and others. According to the website, “WISH uses protected databases” and contains “data for multiple years and geographic areas.” For example, a researcher can query emergency room information and create a detailed report limiting the data by location, cause of injury, age, month or other factors.
