So far, two Madison attorneys are vying State Bar president-elect.
The State Bar of Wisconsin has announced that James C. Boll Jr., a corporate attorney for Madison Gas & Electric Co., and James R. Troupis, a partner at Michael Best & Friedrich, have been nominated for the leadership position.
Immediate Past-President Thomas J. Basting, Sr., was the State Bar’s most recent Madison-area president.
The State Bar follows a three-year rotation for nominating candidates for president-elect. In 2008, two candidates were chosen from rural Wisconsin. The year before that, two candidates were nominated from the Milwaukee area.
Challengers can nominate themselves, which happened this year when attorney Douglas W. Kammer of Portage took on the State Bar’s nominees, Kenneth A. Knudson of Superior and Thomas W. Bertz of Stevens Point. Kammer received 1,871 votes defeating Knudson (1,764 votes) and Bertz (1,646 votes).
For 2009, the State Bar also nominated Milwaukee attorneys Margaret Wrenn Hickey and Kevin J. Lyons for treasurer, Bertz and Mary E. Burke of Madison were nominated for Judicial Council.
