John C. Cabaniss opened his own law office on Aug. 1. The new firm will be known as the Cabaniss Law Office and is located at 10200 North Port Washington Road in Mequon.

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP announced that Thomas A. Miller has been named chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. He is a partner in the firm’s Milwaukee office and is also a member of the Electrical and Computer Subgroup.

Miller’s practice focuses on the acquisition and enforcement of U.S. and foreign patent rights, with an emphasis on software, electrical, electromechanical and biomedical technologies. Miller received a J.D. from Marquette University Law School.

Ruder Ware L.L.S.C. announced the addition of attorney Mark D. Munson to the firm’s Trusts, Estates & Family Business Planning Practice Group.

Munson’s nine-year legal career has focused solely on all aspects of estate planning. He graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Law.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice has hired a number of new Assistant Attorneys General:

Joseph Ganzer graduated from UW Law School in 2000. He has been in private practice with the Hodan, Doster & Ganzer firm in Milwaukee, where he has acquired experience in the areas of personal injury, employment discrimination, contract disputes, insurance defense and appellate work. He began his new job on August 4.

Adam Gerol, David W. Maas and Nancy Noet are also three new Assistant Attorneys General. They began at the DOJ on July 20.

Gerol, is a 1998 graduate of Drake University Law School and has served as an Assistant DA in Ozaukee County since 1992.

Maas, a 1998 graduate of UW-Madison Law School, brings nine years of experience as a prosecutor with the Milwaukee County DA’s office.

Noet, a 1994 graduate of UW-Madison Law School, has been an Assistant DA with the Milwaukee County DA’s office for the past six years, where she handled a variety of matters, including felony cases involving firearms and drug offenses.

Waukesha County Clerk of Circuit Courts Carolyn Evenson has announced she is retiring on Oct. 31, 2008. Evenson was selected by Waukesha’s Circuit Judges in 1999 to complete her predecessor’s term of office and has been elected since. Her successor will be selected by Waukesha County’s Judges, pending the November, 2010 countywide election.

Applications for a successor Waukesha County Clerk of Circuit Court are now being accepted at the office of the District Court Administrator at the Waukesha County Courthouse.

Joseph E. Gumina joined the Milwaukee law firm O’Neil, Cannon, Hollman, DeJong S.C. to lead their labor and employment practice. He brings with him extensive experience representing management in a vast array of employment and labor matters.

Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP has been named a National Corporate Plus Member of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), which recognizes certified minority businesses with nationwide proven capability. Fewer than 100 companies throughout the United States have achieved Corporate Plus status.

The firm was elevated to Corporate Plus status through the endorsement of their client, Johnson Controls, Inc., where the firm provides national and international environmental counsel. Harley-Davidson Motor Company also supported the designation and has been an employment and transactional law client of the firm for more than 11 years.

Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. announces that Don M. Millis and William H. Tobin have been named shareholders in the firm. Bruce T. Block and Kevin J. Howley were elected to the firm’s Board of Directors.

Millis is based in the firm’s Madison office and he practices in the firm’s Tax and Litigation Departments. He graduated with a law degree in 1990 from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Tobin practices in the firm’s Employee Benefits Department out of the Milwaukee office.

He received his law degree from the Boston University School of Law.

Block is chair of the firm’s Real Estate Department in its Milwaukee office. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Howley is in the firm’s Business Law and International Departments. He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law.

Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. announced the election of eight new equity shareholders, five in the Milwaukee office, two in the Madison office and one in the Manitowoc office.

Pamela L. Gergens, Frank A. Gumina, Michael D. Rosenberg, Amy M. Salberg and Heather M. Tiltmann achieved shareholder status in the Milwaukee office; Cynthia L. Buchko and Mary E. Eberle became shareholders in the Madison office; and Michelle Birschbach became shareholder in the Manitowoc office.

Birschbach focuses her practice in the areas of trusts & estates, corporate law, and real estate. She graduated from Marquette University Law School.

Buchko concentrates her practice in commercial litigation, administrative law and energy and public utilities law. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Law.

Eberle concentrates her practice in intellectual property law, particularly in the biotech, agriculture, and renewable energy industries. She is a graduate of Marquette University Law School.

Gergens focuses her practice in environmental law representing developers, investors, and companies in matters facing the real estate industry, including regulatory compliance, brownfield redevelopment, and asbestos abatement and enforcement. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Law.

Gumina focuses primarily on representing management in all facets of labor and employment law matters, and has litigated numerous employment related cases. He graduated from Marquette University Law School.

Rosenberg focuses his practice in the areas of product liability litigation, toxic tort, personal injury defense, insurance coverage and transportation litigation. He is a graduate of Northwestern University Law School.

Salberg concentrates her practice in consumer finance law. Prior to joining WHD, she worked in the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions as the attorney for its Consumer Credit Division. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Tiltmann focuses her practice on a wide variety of labor, employment and immigration-related matters. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Law.

The Madison law firm Axley Brynelson, LLP announced the recent hire of Carol A. Chapman and Kate Scoptur, as well Rachel Wegner’s newly elected position.

Chapman is an attorney in both the Litigation Practice Group and the Labor and Employment Practice Group. She received her law degree from Marquette University Law School in 2006.

Scoptur has been hired as Marketing Coordinator at Axley Brynelson.

Wegner has been elected as the firm’s Office Manager. Wegner previously worked as a legal assistant at Axley Brynelson.

Megan L.W. Jerabek, Marquette 2008, has joined Cook & Franke, S.C. as an associate.

She practices in the areas of corporate and business law, estate planning and probate, taxation, and real estate.
