Murphy Desmond S.C. partner Bob Lightfoot of Verona recently began his term as President and Board Chair of the Wisconsin Assisted Living Association (WALA). He has served as President-Elect since 2006 and serves as co-chair of WALA’s Legislative and Regulatory Committee.
WALA is Wisconsin’s premier assisted living association, comprised of over 650 members and representing more than 11,000 residents of Wisconsin assisted living facilities.
Lightfoot’s statewide and national health care practice focuses on the assisted living and nursing home fields. He earned a J.D. from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Boyle Fredrickson, the largest intellectual property law firm in Wisconsin, announced Jeffrey Speller as the firm’s new Operations Manager.

Melissa M. Ostrowski, Marquette University Law School, 2008, has joined the law offices of Davczyk & Varline, LLC, in Wausau, as an associate. Ostrowski will be practicing in the areas of civil litigation, fire loss, insurance and product liability.

Tomislav Kuzmanovic, a partner in the Milwaukee office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, has been elected a fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA). Fellows to the LCA, a trial lawyer honorary society, are invited based upon effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation and superior ethical reputation.
Membership in the LCA is limited, representing less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.
Including Kuzmanovic, only 23 lawyers in the state of Wisconsin are fellows in the national organization.
Kuzmanovic practices in the area of litigation, with an emphasis on commercial litigation, complex litigation, construction liability, premises liability, product liability, toxic torts, transportation law, and international and human rights law.
dAttorney General J.B. Van Hollen has been elected to serve as the Chairman of the Midwestern Region of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG).
Founded in 1907, the National Association of Attorneys General serves as a resource to assist Attorneys General and their staffs to respond effectively to emerging state and federal legal issues.
In his role as Chairman of the Midwestern Region Van Hollen will also serve as a member of the Executive Committee of NAAG. The term of the Chair is one year.

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP announced that Scott C. Beightol, a partner in the Labor and Employment Relations Group, has been elected Chair of its Management Committee.
Beightol represents businesses in all aspects of employment and labor relations, with special emphasis in litigation of discrimination, non-compete and other matters in federal and state court, the NLRB, and arbitration. Beightol counsels clients on workforce structure, HR audits and best practices, and union avoidance.

Ruder Ware recently promoted attorney Steve Lipowski to shareholder. Lipowski advises businesses large and small in a number of complex business transactions involving real estate, intellectual property and trademark issues, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial and corporate law. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School.

DeWitt Ross & Stevens, S.C., announced that as of July 1, 2008, Madison attorney Jordan K. Lamb has become a partner in the firm.
Lamb concentrates her practice on government relations, environmental and administrative law. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
The firm also announced the addition of Amanda L. Mott as an associate attorney to the Environmental and Litigation Practice Groups in Madison.
Mott received her Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School in 2008.
Molly E. Hall has joined the Environmental and Litigation Group in Madison and Milwaukee. Hall worked as a trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. between 1990 and 1997, and has worked in private practice both in Milwaukee and in Cologne, Germany. Hall received her J.D. degree from Washington & Lee University Law School in Lexington, Virginia.
The firm also announce the addition of Daniel A. Blasiole as a Technical Advisor to the Intellectual Property group in Madison.
Dr. Blasiole will focus on drafting patent applications and advising on scientific matters, particularly in the area of biotechnology.

von Briesen & Roper, s.c., announced the addition of eight attorneys: Shareholders Linda C. Emery and Alexander M. Gerasimow; and Associates Thomas P. Alberti, Alison E. Helland, Laurel Johnson, Gottlieb John Marmet, Daniel J. Noonan and Jacob Winter.
Emery is a Shareholder in the Business Practice Group. She earned a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1986.
Gerasimow is a Shareholder in the Business Practice Group and chairs the Intellectual Property (IP) Section. He earned a J.D. from the Western New England College School of Law in 1976.
Alberti is a member of the Business Practice Group. He earned a J.D., cum laude, in 2004 from Marquette University.
Helland is a member of the Business Practice Group. She received her Master of Laws in Taxation from Northwestern University School of Law in 2006.
Johnson is a member of the Litigation and Risk Management Practice Group. Johnson earned a J.D., cum laude, in 2007 from the Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Marmet is a member of the Litigation and Risk Management Practice Group. Marmet earned a J.D. in 2004 from the University of Wisconsin.
Noonan is a member of the Litigation and Risk Management Practice Group. Noonan earned a J.D. in 2006 from the University of Wisconsin.
Winter is a member of the Business Practice Group and also the Real Estate Section. Winter earned a J.D. in 2007 from Marquette University.

Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. announced that Timothy F. Nixon, a shareholder and team leader of the firm’s Business Finance and Restructuring Practice Group, has co-authored a First Focus special report book, “The Increase in Prepackaged Chapter 11s,” published by Aspatore Books of Boston. Katherine C. Dimino has joined the law firm of Balisle & Roberson, S.C. as an associate attorney. Prior to her admission to the State Bar of Wisconsin, Dimino was employed as a law clerk with the firm since 2006. Dimino works primarily in the areas of divorce, nontraditional family issues, and appellate practice.
