ImageWelcome to the Wisconsin Law Journal’s 2008 Leaders in the Law special issue. In this, our sixth year, we get to celebrate the attorneys who are leaders, not only in the law world, but also in the community at large.

This year, we received a number of nominations for outstanding individuals who not only made a variety of contributions during the year, but also throughout the course of a lifetime. It was a privilege to learn about the achievements of our fellow attorneys and judges.

One of our Leaders has spent most of his career working to improve the level of service of the State Public Defender organization, while another spearheaded an effort to improve the way the caseload was handled at the county courthouse, increasing its efficiency.

Another leads two events for the Boys and Girls Club that unites lawyers to help underserved children. No matter what our 2008 Leaders in the Law have done, one thing is constant — each one has had a lasting impact on our state’s legal community and the community at large.

This year we’re recognizing two attorneys at different points in their careers — Donald Heaney for his lifetime of work and pro bono dedication, and Megan Senatori, our 2008 Rising Star who has a full schedule with both her burgeoning career and volunteer efforts.

Their accomplishments are an example of the remarkable achievements being performed by Wisconsin attorneys.

Whether freely giving time to assist their local communities, improving our courts, or representing clients in the courtroom and in the boardroom, each one of them has done more than his or her share in advancing the legal profession.

By directing our spotlight toward a few select members of Wisconsin’s legal community, we hope to shine a larger light on the great things that lawyers throughout the state are doing each and every day. The individuals within these pages are an example of the commitment, hard work and dedication found in Wisconsin’s lawyers and judges.

As you read the stories of our honorees, we hope you enjoy getting to know them as much as we have, and see what makes each of them one of our 2008 Leaders in the Law.
