If you didn’t notice, Google has changed the look of their Advanced Search screen. I wrote a while back about the importance of utilizing an engine’s advanced search option.

By creating your query within the structure of the advanced search, a researcher can immediately eliminate irrelevant results. Google’s new look makes Boolean searching much easier. Just fill in the appropriate boxes to include phrases or synonyms or eliminate particular words. Other features I commonly use, such as file type (e.g. limiting results to only .pdf documents) and searching within a particular domain (e.g. only search URL’s with .edu), are found under the “Need more tools?” section. Find more tips on refining a search in Google’s Advanced Search Help.
