The goal of a new Marquette Law School took another step toward becoming a reality as a preliminary rendering of the complex was recently developed. Dean Joseph D. Kearney projected the price tag of the new law school to be around $80 million, with a substantial portion of the funds already donated by alumni Raymond and Kathryn Eckstein. In May, the couple pledged $51 million toward construction of the facility, which is expected to be built on the corner of 11th and West Clybourn streets overlooking the freeway. Enclosed within the 180,000-square-foot building will be all law school offices and classrooms, as well as amenities like a café and small fitness center. Kearney hoped to solicit $20 million more before the end of the year and, pending final approval of the project by the board of trustees, groundbreaking could commence next year. |
