ELKHORN, Wis. (AP) — An Elkhorn man has been convicted of causing a vehicle crash that killed a 9-year-old boy.
Thirty-three-year-old Jeremy C. Dees pleaded no contest Friday to three charges originating from the November crash. Dees said he didn’t want to put the family of Carter Dorwin through the agony of a jury trial.
Dees entered the pleas against the advice of his defense attorney, who would have preferred his client reach a plea agreement that could help him get a lighter sentence.
Walworth County prosecutor Phillip Koss now has the option of seeking the maximum sentence — five years in prison plus five years of extended supervision.
Koss said he’ll wait to review the pre-sentence report before deciding what penalty to seek.
Dees will be sentenced April 7, according to the Janesville Gazette.
