Human Resources Professional of the Year

“Joelyn has responsibility for successfully maintaining the kind of programs and enthusiasm that define a good place to work. Each Milwaukee Legal Support Supervisor who works with Joelyn appreciates her attention to detail, ready availability to consult on any problem, and effectiveness at handling tough workplace issues. She truly is an ‘unsung hero’ in the effective functioning of the large and successful support staff at Wisconsin’s biggest law firm, wearing many hats and exercising substantial behind-the-scenes responsibility.” - Nancy Sennett, Milwaukee Office Managing Partner, Foley & Lardner LLP

Joelyn Wunderlich
Human Resources Manager, Foley & Lardner LLP

Since 1999, Joelyn Wunderlich has been the Human Resources Manager for the Milwaukee office of Foley & Lardner, Wisconsin’s largest law firm. In that capacity, she has been instrumental in coordinating a wide range of human resource issues that affect the 600 lawyers and support staff based in the office, and has been responsible for the successful functioning of the office’s 75-member legal assistant support staff.

She works with office supervisors to oversee all support staff hiring, personnel review approval, discipline and workforce adjustment decisions, including as the designated HR resource for the three supervisors of all legal support staff members.

Milwaukee staff support personnel received national recognition when the office was given the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility in 2009, with follow-up designation as an Honorable Mention recipient in 2010.

In both 2010 and 2009, the Milwaukee Business Journal named Foley a “Top Milwaukee Workplace” as identified by an employee satisfaction survey, marking the third time the firm has received this honor.

As the key HR liaison between the Milwaukee office and the national support staff located there, Joelyn ensures the participation of all national staff persons in such office-sponsored activities as United Way drives and the firm’s “Support Staff Appreciation Week,” as key factors in maintaining a positive working environment.

Human Resources Honorees

Victoria L. Seligmiller
Benefits Administrator, Michael Best & Friedrich LLP

“Nine years ago, Victoria joined the firm as an Executive Assistant supporting me in my role as Executive Director. Following the sudden departure of the firm’s benefits coordinator about a year into her time at Michael Best, she volunteered to fill the void by adding benefit administration to her responsibilities. … Victoria has not only stepped up and filled the void, she has made herself an invaluable member of the administrative team with little guidance from others, essentially forging her own path, along with that of the firm, to a better and well structured benefits and wellness program. In so doing, she is truly an ‘Unsung Hero.’”
