Human Resources – Award Winner

Kelly Conrardy
Director of Attorney Recruiting and Retention,
Godfrey & Kahn SC

Kelly Conrardy is watching with a great deal of pride as the first class of attorneys that she recruited comes up for partnership. Conrardy, who has been with the firm for nine years, oversees the firm’s attorney recruiting and retention efforts.

“Watching them has been great,” Conrardy says. “I’ve really seen them mature and grow into leadership roles.”

She has a great deal of contact with the attorneys from their hiring throughout their time at the firm, as she also manages the associate review process and the firm’s mentoring program.

Prior to coming to Godfrey & Kahn, Conrardy handled corporate communications and marketing for Wacker Corp. She has found a use for those skills in her recruiting role as she markets both the firm and the city to prospective associates. She also handles the firm’s lateral hiring efforts.

Given the current economic situation, Conrardy acknowledges the challenges associated with the recruiting process, particularly for bringing in law students, which involves a two-year cycle, requiring her to forecast what the firm’s needs will be at that point.

“Now more than ever, recruiting is important to do,” she says. “We’re not giving up the core values to continue our growth in the community.”

“During the past year of economic uncertainty, she has been a steady hand in our recruiting process, making prudent temporary adjustments to the process while resisting the temptation to follow the path taken by many other firms to completely change or abandon their recruiting efforts due to short term concerns. … Kelly plays an extremely important role at Godfrey & Kahn, and her dedication and commitment are critical to our firm’s ability to attract and retain talented professionals,” write Richard Bliss, firm president, Patricia Falb, management committee, and Mark Witt, board of directors.
